Job purpose

Utilising a fresh and innovative approach to provide all-round communications support for the Police and Crime Commissioner via digital and traditional media channels, in addition to graphic design support. To inform campaigns and strategies designed to support the delivery of the Police and Crime Plan.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work with the Communications Officer and Head of Communications and Engagement to produce digital content and copy, ensuring that digital channels are used effectively to disseminate news, information and campaign material to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Produce rich media, images and infographics to support campaign content and other information produced by the department including the Annual Report and Police and Crime Plan.
  • Assist with the planning of events to support the Commissioner’s work as necessary, and attend engagement and consultation events, ensuring the Commissioner is represented in a professional manner.
  • Accompany the Commissioner at internal and external events, ensuring opportunities for digital communications are fully explored and utilised.
  • Capture and edit photo and video content as necessary.
  • Monitor the Commissioner’s social media channels to maintain an awareness of current issues, responding to simple queries and comments and escalating issues to the Head of Communications and Engagement and senior leadership team as necessary.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the contribution that digital channels make towards the Commissioner’s strategies and support colleagues in producing reports.
  • To maintain an awareness of the activities across the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, anticipating demand, highlighting risks and providing support and assistance as necessary to ensure the officer delivers the Commissioner’s agenda.
  • Deal with media requests and liaise with the media and other stakeholders across the county and Constabulary in order to promote the Commissioner’s work.
  • Create media releases for a variety of audiences
  • Develop, implement and evaluate standalone social media campaigns to support the Commissioner’s work, agenda and strategies.
